Mr. Rudy Leal
Mr. Leal attended Midwestern State University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2012. Mr. Leal had the opportunity to study with Dr. Larry Archambo during his time at Midwestern State. Mr. Leal was a member of the Golden Thunder Marching Band, Midwestern State Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.
In addition Mr. Leal attended Texas Tech University, where he received his Master in Music Education degree in 2018. He served as Teaching Assistant for the Music Education Department from 2016 to 2018. Mr. Leal assisted and studied with Dr. Jacqueline Henninger, Assistant Professor of Music Education, and Dr. Eric Allen, Assistant Director of Bands, Mr. Leal helped/taught specifically with undergraduate music curriculum, practicum, student teacher preparation, woodwind methods and undergraduate instrumental conducting courses.
Mr. Leal is excited to start his third year for the Iowa Park Band Program. This will be Mr. Leal’s eighth year teaching as a music educator in the state of Texas.
Prior to teaching at Iowa Park, Mr. Leal was assistant director at China Spring ISD, located near Waco, Tx from 2012 to 2016. During his time at China Spring Mr. Leal’s ensembles received excellent and superior ratings in UIL Concert and Sight Reading, Mr. Leal’s solo and ensemble students earned spots at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, in addition Mr. Leal has assisted with marching band programs that have made multiple appearances at the UIL State Marching Band Contest, in 2016 Mr. Leal and associated marching band program represented Texas and the United States on an international level by marching in the London New Year’s Day Parade. Mr. Leal assisted with the China Spring Wind Ensemble when they were selected as the 2016 Texas 4A State Honor Band. In 2016 and 2017 Mr. Leal received “The Pride of China Spring Teaching Award” having been selected by students in the top ten percent of two different graduating senior classes.
Mr. Leal’s responsibilities for the Iowa Park Band Program include recruitment and interaction with the 5th grade, overseeing aspects of the WFGMS Band Program, specifically the 6th grade beginning band classes, 7th and 8th grade ensembles, assisting with high school marching band, assisting with Varsity Wind Ensemble and directing the high school non varsity concert band.
Mr. Leal’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Kappa Kappa Psi and Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB).
In his spare time Mr. Leal enjoys traveling (His most recent trip to Japan) and spending time with his wife Katy Leal and pug Jasmine.
Mr. Leal looks forward to working with the students at Iowa Park CISD and helping to continue the tradition of excellence while helping to guide the students and band program to greater future achievements!
